The question should teenagers work during their school holidays has now become more and more common as more teenagers get themselves a job during their school holiday.I think that teenagers should work during their school holidays because they can learn many new things that the school will not teach and cannot be found in their textbooks. They may gain unforgettable experiences and also learn that earning money is not easy and they will be more careful with their spending in the future.Although there are also some disadvantages such as they will be influenced by their bad friends that will destroy their future. They will lose their freedom when they work during their school holidays and not being able to revise their schoolwork. But I think that as long as they have the strong determination and is able to juggle well with their studies and work, it is all right to work during the school holidaysSince working during the school holidays has so many advantages therefore I agree that teenagers should work during their school holidays.

Nowadays having a holiday job had already became a trend of teenagers. Teenager's monthly expenditure had rised rapidly but their parents' little salaries were unable to support their heavy expenditure. Thus, teenagers chose to take jobs on holiday.
Personally, I have no objection to this. I don't see why teenagers could not take jobs on holidays. They are big enough to make their own decision and it is a good thing for them to learn to lighten their parents' burden. Besides, they are having a holiday job which means that the affection to their study will be minimised.
By exposing to the real world is also a good opportunity for them to build responsibility and make them realised the true value of things they own. By doing that, they will finally learn to treasure what they have and care for their parents. The experience will also help
in the future when they are finding a stable job. They would probably have a higher chance of employment than the one who don't have any job experience. This might also help to correct the materialistic life of teenagers as they finally realised how hard is to earn the money.
Thus, I think that teenagers having a holiday job is alright.

Should teenagers work during the holidays?
In my opinion, I agree that teenagers should work during the holidays.
I think it benefits them in many ways and helps them to kill time, as most
of them feel that it is boring to stay at home all day with nothing to do.
Firstly, it helps teenagers to understand how it feels like to be working with others
under different environments. They will also experience how to cope with the different
types of difficulties they have never faced before, handling problematic customers and adapting to their working environment, etc. They will also learn how to co-operate and work with new colleagues and their bosses. Most importantly, they will learn that they cannot refuse to do tasks assigned by their superiors, bargain with them and get a taste of how it feels like to work in the society. It also fits the purpose of some schools organising 'Work Experience Programmes'.
Secondly, they can earn money and realise how hard it is to earn only a few hundred or a thousand bucks a month, depending on what kind of work they took up. Some may even learn how to save money, as they do not want to spend their hard-earned money on unneccessary things. Although some may even splurge all their money to shop, but at least it will be a relieve to some of their parents, as the money is not coming from their own pockets, but from their children's pays, where there is nothing wrong for the teenagers to use the money they earned to buy things to pamper themselves. They can also help to lighten the financial loads of their parents.
Lastly, teenagers can learn to be independent as when they work in the society, there is no one there to spoonfeed them. Their parents and friends will not be able to help them in times of trouble, they will have to depend on themselves.
However, there are disadvantages to this issue. For example, not being able to spend more time with their family and friends and getting to know people that are of bad influences. Although those examples may affect our lifes, they could be solved. The teenagers can work part-time instead of full-time, so that they could spend sufficient time with their family and friends. They should have no problems judging people to and not to mix with, if they have discipline and the ability of having good judgement instilled in them. Hence, it depends on the teenagers as an individual.
Overall, there are more advantages as compared to disadvantages and I strongly believe that teenagers should work during the holidays, since it is beneficial to them.

Should students work during school holidays? It depends on one's own judgement. As for me,i would think it is a good choice. There had been an increase in students working during there school holidays, working for extra cash in the pocket, that's probably the main reason for it.
First of all, parents usually give pocket money that is just enough to support the child in school, examples like lunch. As the child grow older and mix around with friends, they learnt to go shopping with their friends, having simply lunch or dinners. This increase a lot of their daily expenses, which eventually lead them to start working and get more money in there pocket.
Secondly, more and more students, even as young as ten years old,are starting to buy branded goods."Showing off" seems to be their aim.Parents may chip in money at the start to buy their children branded goods but of course,it will never be enough, the child will ask for more. This is when the parents stop contributing as they think its too much. The parents will then ask their child to save up.Saving take a long time,so students will want to earn quick money and that's to work. This point also show why nowadays, the child seem to have more branded goods than their parents.
Finally, ages of fourty-five years onwards, who are jobless are having a hard time to get a job.As a jobless parent,it would be a great help for their child to start working part-time to help support the family. This would help in finance while the parent continue to find a proper job.
All in all,no matter for what reasons,to help support the family,to buy branded goods and follow up fashion or simply getting extra cash for emergency, its good for students to work during their school holidays.

I believe that it is good for teenagers to work during the school holidays if they are very free.
Firstly, it lets them experience what working is all about. This would be very important as they would know what to expect from their future bosses , learn how to take orders and stop thinking that they are the boss.It also gives them the chance to gain exposure , and to let them have more choices to choose from when they finished studying and decides to work. They would then be prepared mentally. Knowing what to expect , what to do and what not to do.
Secondly, rather than wasting their time away at home playing computer games, they can earn their own pay and learn to be independent. To stop relying on their parents for what they want , for their meals . Wouldn't that be a better decision ? But, the job should be a decent one and not something that doesn't suit a teenager. This would also minimise the teenagers chance of mixing with the wrong company , and their addiction to computer games.
Finally, they would also learn how to appreciate money more, learn not to anyhow waste money on things. They would also know what their parents are going through when they work, and that money doesn't come easy at all. Since teenagers have so many things that they need , they should know how to earn the money to buy those things.
Therefore, I believe that there are a lot of advantages to teenagers working and it should not be a problem for the teenagers at all. Thus, i fully agree that teenagers should work during the holidays

Teenagers Working During The Holidays.
Nowadays, more teenagers are engaged in their job rather then staying at home restlessly. Personally, i think it is not a bad idea for them to start working in the society at this age. Compared to those who would rather stay at home wasting their time watching television or playing computer games, working is more meaningful. There are several reasons to which why teenagers want to find a job during the holidays and of course, there are some benefits and disadvantages to this.
Most probably, teenagers think that the amount of pocket money they received from their parents are not enough to last them through the one month vacation. It would only supply them with food and transport. How will that satisfy them? Thus, they could buy what they want with the money they earned. There are also some families which do not have sufficient money to meet the ends. Therefore, teenagers from such families have to work during the holidays to help with the family's income.
Teenagers will definitely benefit somehow when they step into the society to work. Firstly, they will gain experience that cannot be found in the textbook. They will be able to find a job easier in the future. Teenagers will also be able to learn some new skills through the job. This will help them in the future. Working will also increase in their confident. They will be more mature in the way they see things because the world out there is bigger then staying in a small classroom. In the classroom, we are only restricted to the things in the textbooks. But in the working society, they get to know more experienced workers and learn from them. Most importantly, teenagers will learn how to manage and use their time wisely.
Although we know the advantages, there is still a certain degree of danger behind teenagers working. Firstly, teenagers might spend their money on too many unneccessities and waste the money. Secondly, when they work in the society, they might get to know friends which will lead them to bad influences. Such as taking drugs which will harm their body and get addicted. Thirdly, Spending too much time on working might affect their studies.
Still, i agree will teenagers working during the holidays. As long as they know the where is the limitations. They should also know how to protect themselves from people harming them. They must also take note in their studies if they are weak at that. Most importantly, they should seek the consent of their parents and learn from the good points of working.
Ong Zhi Min(18)
I think it is good for more mature students to work during holiday so that they have some workplace exposure and learn to recognize that it is not that easy to earn money, so hopefully they better appreciate the pocket money that their family gives them.
While, I think it really depends on our commitments and schedules, if let us say we are from a sports team in secondary school or JC, I dun think we will have time to work even if u want to. We need to place so much time in our CCA that working has never crossed our mind. It is better to expose yourself to various activities when we are a student unless your family is really in need.
Actually, it depends on who the student is, to some of us, it might be a good chance for us to earn experience, while for the others, and it might just affect their studies.
Jason Chen(32)
Should students work during the school holidays? In my opinion, yes.
This is mainly because of the advantages that work life will bring towards the students. Firstly, students will not anyhow spend their pocket money their parents give them after experiencing how hard is it to earn. They will spend their money more wisely too. Secondly, it also allows us to face the problems that we will face during work earlier so we can adapt to it better when we start working. Problems like backstabbing, betrayal, etc. if we adapt this at an earlier stage, we wont be dealt a big blow when this problems happen to us. Another reason will be to train our patience and tolerance. For example, our boss or customers might be very demanding, but we still must please their every needs. Students will also spend less time on playing computer games which damages their eye sight and will also spend their time wisely. It will also help you to overcome your shyness if you are a very shy person.
Some families also have financial difficulties. Working not only helps the family to lighten their financial difficulties, these students will also have an experience in working. It is just like killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Another benificial point will be that since that they had worked before, getting a job in the future will be easier.
The disadvantages will be that we wont be able to spend so much time with our studies, friends and family. If your not that good with studies, i think that it would be better to concentrate with ur studies instead of going to work.
most of the reasons that students go to work will be because parents do not give us enough pocket money. They give us just enough to go to school for lunch and recess and our bus fare. However, what they do not know is that we still need money to go out with our friend. So, to earn the extra money we need, students go out and work.
In all, i believe that students should go out to work.

The number of teenagers working during the school holidays is increasing rapidly nowadays. To me, it is a good sight as this shows that teenagers are learning to become more mature and independent. Why would I think so?
First of all, you will learn to recognise that it's not easy to earn money. You need a lot of hardship in order to get your pay. Sometimes, it will be more difficult than you think. Hence through working, you can appreciate the money your parents give you.
On the other hand, stepping into the workforce during school holidays will allow you to gain a certain degree of experience through interaction with people from different levels of the society. This not only affects the way that you work in the future, but it also helps in interaction in school. It also help you to find new job faster when you step into the society one day, which is obviously very important.
Some people said that working will affect their studies and that they do not have time to complete their homework assigned by their teachers. Personally, I think it is just an excuse. Being teenagers, we should have known how to manage our times wisely. We can take part time job instead of full time, and we can finish our homework before taking up a job. Hence, I do not think this is a problem that will hinder us from working during holiday.
In short, I strongly agree that teenagers should work during the holidays. I think it will be a good experience for all the teenagers. Me, myself are willing to give it a try during December holiday.

What do teenagers do during school holidays? Actually, there is no specific thing that teenagers do during holidays. However, most teenagers find a job to work during the holidays to work. To me, I personally is on for the idea of teenagers working.
Teenagers work because of a lot of reason. The main reason for teenagers working is because of earning money. Teenagers need money because most of them do not receive pocket money during the holidays. One reason for parents not giving pocket money is because they think that their children no need money as they need not attend school so they no need to spend on anything thus not giving them any pocket money. However, parents who have these thought are wrong. This is because holiday is the period when teenagers spend the most money as most of them goes out more often.
However, there are some students who work to help to earn money for the family income. These students most probably come from a family that I quite poor.
Still, in my point of view, if one is weak in their studies, I strongly disagree in them going to work as I think they should spend their time revising their work. This also applies to those who thinks they cannot cope or more.
But teenagers must remember to seek for parents’ consent before working as it will be a better way. If not, it will be bad if your parents find out and start scolding. Not all parents agree on letting their children go out to work. Some parents may allow their children maybe because they trust their children in taking care of themselves and also give them freedom. But some parents also think that their students should not go get a job as it may affect their studies or just solely because they do not want their children to ‘suffer’.
Still, teenagers should still enjoy their holidays.

By Shaun-
I feel that teenagers should work during the holidays.
There are many advantages and disadvantages. There are advantages such as early working experience that can prepare teenagers for the working society in the future. Most parents are also likely to encourage their children to start working when they are teenagers. The extra money could greatly benefit teenagers who are short on cash at the moment.
However, there are some disadvantages to teenagers working during the holidays too. For example, working could take up the teen's studying or leisure time. Working days could also easily clash with the teen's tuition, school project or cca event days. It would be difficult for the teen to arrange his or her working days with so many other events going on.
However, if a teen does decide to find a job and start working during the holidays, i feel that he should find a job that suits his personality. It would be best for a person to work in an environment that he feels comfortable in, instead of one that would make him tense and frustrated. Working in a suitable environment would enable the teen to perform to his fullest potential.
Having the teen's parents come down and visit his working place can also help. The parents of the teen could then know what kind of environment and people their child is working in. They could also give valuable tips and advices to their child which could greatly contribute to the child's working experience.
As a conclusion, i feel that teenagers should work during the holidays. However, they should also practice caution when finding a job.

I think that teenagers working during the holidays is not a bad idea.
Instead of wasting their time at home playing games or watching TV. Teenagers can learn thing that cannot be found on textbooks during the holidays. E.g. working experiences, handling of demanding customers etc.
They can also learn to manage their time and
money wisely. Teenagers that works will understand that earning money is not as easy as they think it is.
Working can also teach teenagers to be more tolerant and and be more responsible
There are a few reasons why teenagers takes up jobs during the holidays. For example, not enough pocket money. they might be hoping to buy something that they really want and hope to earn extra bucks to buy it.
In conclusion , i agree to teenagers working during the holidays.
They can spend their time more meaningfully and earn their own money during the holidays.

Should Teenagers Work During The School Hoildays?
I agree.Instead of idling at home, going out we should try more new experiences, like working.Teenagers who mainly work is just for their material needs but through this process they could get more working experiences and will know how it will be like in the future to work in the reality world.
Teenagers mainly work as waiteress , salesperson for example. When working as waiteress or saleperson we can train our endurance and patience and learn to serve well.Because customers can be picky at times and tend to pick on you asking you to do this and that making you run all over the shop finding the perfect fitting of shoes for her or him for example.Or for a waitress you could be serving at KFC and the customer could be standing there thinking what to buy and you might be losing customers who are standing behind. All this examples need teenagers to have tolerance.
But to sadly say teenagers now are rebelling and always have little patients so working could help them keep their tempered control.
And working is only for experiences it allows u show yur independence in you and you could show to your parents that u can do things by yourself now.And the money you earn from working could be saved for rainy days so it is good. But working needs time so teenagers should set a right timetable to follow or it might affect their health or studies but overall working is good.
-Kelly:]
In my opinion, teenagers should work during the holidays. We can choose to work part-time or full-time, depending on our free time.
Besides playing computer games (E.g. Maplestory, Gunbound, o2Jam, Dota, Audition), watching television or basically just finding things to do to kill time, we should do something more useful. For example, get a job. Most teenagers choose to work at fast-food restaurants, Popular and shops that sell clothes, bags, shoes in shopping centres. However, it also takes time to find a job thus we should be patient.
Most parents will allow their children to work because they know that their children are mature enough to feed and take care of themselves. While some parents think that it is very dangerous for their children to go out everyday to work because they might meet with accidents. They feel that their children's safety is more vital.
By working during the holidays, they will know how the society is like. Gradually, they will be more experienced and will know what to do when they are in the working class. Thus, personally i think that there is no harm working. Even if we have some problems with our boss or colleagues in the midst, at least we have learnt our lesson. So why not give it a try?
However, for teenagers who think that they will not be able to cope with it because of their tuitions, lessons outside school and cca should not get a job. They might just stress themselves up instead. Before going for a job, we must tell ourselves that we must be responsible when we are working and in our studies too. We should not let it affect our studies either.
Still, teenagers should enjoy themselves during the holidays and not stress themselves up while working.
Corrine :)
Teenagers nowadays are more prone to the shopahalic world and having the craves to do more shopping trips during their free time. Naturally, this increases the chances of teenagers working during the holidays. Should teenagers work during the holidays? Different phases of answers definitely varies.
Personally, i feel that teenagers should work during the holidays. Being at the age of 13-21 as a teenage, i believe that they should be mature and definitely old enough to try out new things and gain fruitful and new experiences. Teenagers working during the holidays, not only could learn to see things at a different angles in the working soceity, they are also able to understand how hard money is earned by their parents. From that, this would make them think twice when spending their allowance. Most importantly, they are able to venture out new things and learn how the working soceity functions. This definitely benefits them in the future, when they step into the working soceity.
In addtion, some families tend to have financial difficulties. With the help of their children working during the holidays, not only allows their children to learn new things, they are also able to help out in their families by earning money to solve their financial problems. Only through working, children would then learn how to be spend their money wisely, or they would just carry on being a spendthrift person.
On the other hand, some people may think that teenagers working during the holidays may affect their academic results and might tend not to finish their homework when school reopens. However, i feel that being a teenage should be old enough to be able to plan their time wisely. They should be able to have proper time management and to finish their homework, and plan things out wisely before working. They could also take out some of their leisure time to make revision for their studies. With all these help, I trust that teenagers working during the holidays would not affect their studies.
In short, I strongly agree that teenagers should work during the holidays so that they would not spend their holidays idling around doing nothing, but to gain fruitful experiences that might be beneficial to them in the future.
wendy :)
Personally, i think that students should work during holidays for pocket money.
Firstly, when they work , they get to know and see how the society out there is like.
Secondly, when students work, they suffer alot of hardship and put in alot of effort before finally getting their first pay. This allow them to understand how difficult their parent are working in the society to provide financial support for the family. In this way , they will then appreciate , where hardearn monay comes from and stop being so spendthrift.
Thirdly, students can earn their own pocket money without even asking any from their parents during the holidays. Only then will they know how to manage their hardearn monay wisely.
Through working experience, students also learn to be more tolerant especially when met with demanding customers in the society. As the saying goes, "customers are always right" , students will have to deal with the customers calmly, and try to control their own temper.
In conclusion, working during holidays will definitely benefit students to learn things that could not be found on the textbook itself.

Well, personally, I would go along with the idea of having a job during the holidays. This is because working during holidays are good for us. I wouldn't say totally good, but the pros more than the cons. I myself would like to work.Holidays? They are for resting, since it had been a long term. Next is to do holiday assignment. And there are many other activities such as CCAs, remedials and many others. But we, as students, take this time to play computers, hang out with friends and so on. There are really many things to do during holidays. Some of us teenagers get a job too. This sight is common in the 21st century. Why teenagers work? Basically, I think most of them work for money. They feel that the poket money that their parents give them is not enough, and that, they have to earn more. They may want to buy something with teh money they earned. Or the family itself might be in a financial crisis, and they have no choice but to work. Anyway, they have a feel of what their parents are doing, and how hard is it to earn money.Nextly, it increases our working experience. It's valuable, and cannot be bought. Working in fastfood chains like KFCs, they can get experience serving people. Everytime, it seems the other way. People serve us, and now we serve them. It's also how we give back to the society. By working, we become more independent. We also get the feel of the 'outside world'; the competitive society and the reality of life. This is what our textbooks don't teach, and we have to learn it ourselves. Through working, we also can make more friends and so on. It's always good to make new friends.Working is always better than slacking; sitting on the sofa, watching tv and playing commputer games. One may neglect their studies by working too. So, I wouldn't recommend those that are weak in their studies to get a job. They have to use the holidays to brush up on their weaker subjects. And after working hours, they might be too beat to do their homwork and study. To wrap up, I would encourage teenagers to work during holidays, but not when their grades are bad.Cindy ;)
Should teenagers work during the holidays? Well, I myself do agree.
In this 21st century, its a common sight to see teenagers working in fast food restaurants, giving out flyers, etc. but why do they want to work when they could enjoy their one month long holidays?
Firstly, they want to have more pocket money. Their parents might not have gave them enough pocket money or they just wanted to have more money? Why would anyone complain about having more money? Teenagers could use their own money and spent on things that they want, or just to spoil themselves during the holidays. They will no longer need to demand or ask for more money from their parents and get a scolding instead.
Secondly, they could gain valuable working experiences. Experiences are important to us, no matter doing what. And so, when they step out into the society and work they could be ahead of other people due to their working experiences that they acquire when they were still teenagers. Its good anyway. This does certainly increase in their efficiency and quality in their work. And of course, bosses will like them. Young but experienced.
Thirdly, they could realise how hard it is for their parents to earn money for the family. So instead of wasting money on useless things, why not save it up for future use or use the money wisely? This would not only spare a thought for their parents, it will also mature their thinking, that earning money is hard. They could get a feel how hard their parents worked to support the family, while having to face their boss's scoldings.
Although working might affect your studies, but as long as you are confident that you can manage your time well, why not give it a shoot, a try? Its worth it.
-chukeying <3
Should teenagers work during the holidays? Well, as a teenagers in this 21st century, I do agree that we should. However, there are also some negative sides to this subject.
Firstly, the main reason for getting a job is none other than MONEY. With money, we can satisfy all our needs – the I-can-resist-anything-but-shopping-Great-Singapore-Sales, not-to-be-missed movies example Shrek3 and Pirates of the Caribbean, trips to Escape and all. After all, isn’t that what holidays are for? (Well, with holiday homework of course -_-)
Besides, students can get to gain more experiences in this competitive working society out there, which are useful when the time comes. Being used to have their parents giving in to their whining, by working outside will let them have a taste of the reality of life and thus, grooming them into a more mature and responsible person. Ironically, those who were especially pampered at home tend to have more desire to catch a glimpse of the outside world. Hence, working will not only give them a chance to accomplish this “dream”, but also, give them a sense of accomplishment because, well, they washed a bowl! Lastly, this group of working teenagers can also enlarge their circle of friends too (but also a higher possibility of going onto BGR)
And now, it’s the negative side. With all the reasons given below and maybe above by our friends, the few main points are neglecting their studies especially if he/she is bad at managing their own time and also, they would use this invalid “I am working today” reason to skip themselves from their Co-curriculum activities and also extra lessons. Now think, if they are using such excuses to defend for their absence, then where has all their responsibility and integrity gone too? Isn’t that one of the few important factors required for every job? If they cannot display such simple values in their every day life, then what’s the points of “training” them during work?
After all, holiday is not totally about earning hard for money, it is also for us to enjoy ourselves, rest well and catching up our schoolwork too! To end off the whole essay/post, I would recommend students to take up job attachment programs organized by the school as it is more educational and our parents are assured of our safely and whereabouts too. If you are really going to work outside, make sure you have some friends accompanying you and find out carefully about the details for the job, because you might not want to do jobs you don’t want to…(;

What are teenagers doing during the holiday these days? Shopping in the malls, playing in the arcades, catching a movie at the cinema, or maybe even cycling or roller-blading at East Coast Park? All these sights are very common nowadays. However, they need money. One very important question is asked here. Where do these money come from? Their own pocket money? Or their parents?
Personally, i feel that students should work during the holidays to earn pocket money because in this 21st century, it is very competitive. Hence, the more students should learn to be independent and at the same time, gain work experiences. This will definitely benefit them when they go out to work next time.
Going out to work to earn pocket money will teach teenagers that earning money isn't an easy job and hence, the more they will spend it wisely. It will also show their parents that are independent enough to take care of themself. Being independent, they will then learn to stand on their own feet and not depend on their parents and others.
But however, we must also know that by encouraging students to work during holidays also have its negative side. When they receive their first pay, their very first thing to do is to go out with their friends and enjoy themselves with the money. However, ask yourself, will they save part of the money in their bank or will they spend it all?
Students might also be too engrossed in earning their own pocket money maybe because the pay they receive are much more than what their parents are giving them and also by earning their own pocket money gives them a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. As a result, even when school reopens, they might want to continue with the job. When this happen, most of them time will be spent on their work, leaving no time for them to do their homeworks and revsions. This will then lead to their school grades falling.
In conclusion, i feel that students should work during the holidays to earn their own pocket money, but however, they must have responsiblities over their studies. Parents can also play a part by teaching their kids about being satisfied with what they have and also not be greedy.

Other than doing homework, studying for the next semester, playing computer games or just sleeping the whole day long, teenagers now have a more constructive and meaningful thing to do during the holiday - get a job.
Nowadays, it isn't rare to see teenagers working at fast food chains, going door to door selling ice-cream or even giving out flyers at shopping malls during the holidays.
I feel that getting a part-time job during the holidays is not a bad idea. Other than earning a quick buck to satisfy their shopping trips or to help the family income, a job is also a good way to let us experience what the world outside is like. No more parents to comfort us when we get reprimanded by your boss, we are on our own now. Through jobs, teenagers can finally understand that money is indeed difficult to earn, and learn how hard our parents slog just to raise the us up. We can also kill time during the long and boring school holidays and accumulate valuable working experience while working. We might learn to be more street-smart, something that teachers or textbooks do not teach us.
Even though I strongly feel that teenagers should take up a job during the holidays, I do not really encourage teenagers who have bad grades or taking their major examinations this year to take up a job. Be it the O or A levels, both are all very important examinations and the grade on your result slip determines what kind of school we will get into and what course to take. Even if it is just a simple End of Year Exam, I feel that one should also study very hard for it even though it's not a major examination, nevertheless, it still concerns our future and we should not take it lightly.
If taking up a job when we are young would affect our future prospects, I rather not take up a job at all and get a better and higher paying job in the future when I am older and have the qualifications and abiltities to handle a job better.
Overall, on teenagers having a job now, I feel that it is okay as long as they know how to manage their time efficiently and not let their part-time or full-time job affect their studies and CCA.

Students working during the holidays have been a very common sight over the past few years. Even as students, what they spend each month is not less than an office lady who spend her money on her appearance. They could not get their desired amount of pocket money from their parents and therefore goes to work during the June and December holidays. In my opinion, it is both a very good way to learn how to earn our own money and to spend our free time on something meaningful.
To the students who work, they may have several reasons of doing so. Maybe they have finanacial problems at home and wants to help make ends meet to help their parents. Maybe they want to earn extra pocket money to spend on branded goods, or anything they desire. Or they just want to find a way to occupy their free time. Whatever their reasons are, there are both advantages and disadvantages of working during the holidays.
Firstly, students have an opportunity to know how it feels to earn their own money. In this way, they will get to understand how hard their parents work to support the family. This will allow the student to get closer to his or her family, increasing the family bond.
Next, most students spend their free time at home watching television programmes and using the computer for games or instant messaging purposes. Instead of slacking and doing nothing meaningful at home, working will provide them with new knowledge and skills, as well as extra income. This is why most students choose to work during the holidays.
As for the disadvantages, students may be too eager in earning extra income and forgot about balancing their time for school and work. Their time may be fully occupied by work that they have no time to complete their school homework. In another way, they may be too exhausted after work to bother about anything else.
However, if the students can manage their time wisely, working is a rather good way to spend their holidays. They can draw up a timetable on which days they want to complete their homework and so on. I believe that supervisors do understand that students have leisure programmes with their friends and a pile of homework to complete over the holidays.
In conclusion, i encourage students to work during the holidays provided that they can balance their time well. It will increase the students' skills and ability in adapting to their working environment in the future. Thus, balancing their time is very important for their benefits. If not, it will only pull down their grades and affect their studies.

When we talk about holidays in Singapore, we are usually talking about the longer ones such as the June and December holidays. Even though homework may be assigned by teachers to be completed during the holidays, there is still plenty of free time available to students. What many students do its to work in fast food chains such as MacDonald or Burger King. I agree that this is indeed, a very good way to spend the holidays.
Besides the fact that it could bring in extra income for the family, there are also many things positive things which i could note. For one, working in Fast food chains prevents teenagers form being glued to the computer screens, playing video games 24/7. Instead of spoiling their eyesight, students could even bring in extra income for the family and add a small amount inside their pocket money!
Another fact is that working during the holidays keeps students out of trouble. Students would not use their free time to loiter around. This could potentially prevent them form meeting bad company, who will lead them astray. Also, whit their free time spent on their jobs, they would not create trouble themselves. It is good for students to focus their attention on jobs during the holidays,
However, i must say that students will have to stop once the term starts. Having jobs during the school term would affect student's attention span during classes and could potentially pull their grades down. Hence, students must know when to start and when to stop.

*warning: bad grammar & English
Holidays, what does it indicates? It does mean a lot for the students, as it is the time where they can go shopping, play computer games without any time control, going overseas and even working for extra pocket money. Working in shops like McDonald’s or KFC is the way. Parents do think it is a way to gain experience. However, is that the main objective for the students to work.
Most of the students have at least one hundred dollars a month, and when they save money for a few months, it is an adequate amount for a big shopping spree. On the other hand, when they have spent all their money during normal school days, who will let go of the opportunity to earn their pocket money?
Working during holidays trains students to be more sociable as they will have to introduce their products and convince them to purchase it. Thinking more is one of the effect of working during holidays. They will consider the price and how much do they really need that object. They also must be independent on themselves, as they cannot find their parents to help them if they meet any difficulties.
Students should manage their time carefully as they have holiday assignments too. Thus it is very tiring when they could not 'catch up'.
Overall, it is considerable for student to work during the holidays.
#wahlim :D
I feel that students should work during the holidays.
Some students work to buy that desired Puma bag or Adidas jacket, while others work as a way to increase their pocket money, perhaps when there are financial problems at home.
Whatever the reason might be, I feel that working is a positive method to teach youngsters that the money from their parents is hard-earned. Also, working helps them set a goal for themselves. When they have reached it, their efforts paid off. Whether they realize it or not, the working experience they have gained would be helpful in the future and in their lives, where they would think twice before buying things out of impulse and throwing it aside afterwards.
However, time management and self-discipline still comes into the picture. Being students, they would receive holiday homework, and hence they must utilize their time well, in order to ensure that working would not affect their studies. Another thing is that they should take good care of themselves, and not tire themselves out because of wanting to reach their goals.
All in all, working would be a generally good experience for the students, but there must also be a balance of self-discipline so that the holidays would be well spent, and a time to learn, play and relax.
Rebecca :D
The reason most teenagers would go out to work during the holidays would most probably be the lack of money.Nowdays teenagers spent most of their pocket money on stuff like shopping etc,and hence, when the money given by our parents are not enough, the logical thinking would be to get a job.
There are both advantages and disadvantages of getting a holiday job.For the benefits, the first and foremost one would be being independent and not depend on our parents for money. As we all know, earning money now is not easy, hence we should learn to stand on our own feet and not treat our parents like an ATM machine.Through the experience,we'll also be able to understand how hard it is to earn money, and also learn not to squander our money freely.
Besides, getting the experience of working would do oneself good.We learn that many things we would not be able to learn in school. This experience would be a stepping stone towards the day when we finally step out to work in society. Also,it keeps us busy, and ensures that at least we will not waste our time throughout the long holiday break doing nothing.
The disadvantages might be that our academic performance might be affected. If our studies werent very good in the first place, maybe we should reconsider taking up a job in the holidays as it eats into our revision time.If however, you're someone who can manage to do revision after getting back from work, then I guess there's no problem in this aspect.
One problem faced might be our parents.Although most parents would be glad that their children are finally getting a taste of what's its like to work, some other parents might feel cautious about letting their children go out to work. This might come from over-protectiveness.Some persuading might come in handy in this area.
All in all,I approve the idea of teenagers going out to work, since this is a good experience for us,and it brings about many benefits.

Teenagers working during the holidays to earn extra pocket money?
As i am a teenager,i would give a thumbs-up to earning pocket money.Who wouldn't want extra pocket money, money which you can call it your own and you can control the spending of it?
Not for me of course, and my fellow shopaholic friends.
This new generation of youngsters are more mature in the sense that we're exposed to the media, outside world, the World Wide Web at a young age.So definitely we're exposed to tech gadgets, fashion, knowledge;basically everything.
We,the Generation Y,are pretty materialistic too, despite all the stories about how happiness or other values are more important than material things. With the booming economy and Great Singapore Sales to await for, teenagers definitely want the money they call their own to spend on.
Well, money is just the reward. We can also gain working experience, whether your employee is nice or mean, learn good time management, have a work-study balance and make your holidays more meaningful.
However, sometimes the working hours may take a tad too long for students to cope and if the pay is low,it is really not worth working. As we're teenagers and still studying for O levels and for A levels and diplomas,we need the time to get good grades. It is really stupid and insane to work more than to study, because studying will hold us better jobs in the future, preferably with more pay and less of hard work.
As a teenager, anything is possible with our youthful energy and enthusiasm. It is just how we make full use of the time during the holidays.
And just remember the money we call our own!
Shannen.
The june holidays are here, and many teenagers my age are planning to get a holiday job to earn an extra buck. Nowadays, it is a common sight to see teenagers taking up the jobs intended to be for adults. Such as a cashier at KFC and Macdonald's or a sales assistant for notable brands such Converse and Quicksilver.
I feel that since there isn't much a teenager can do during the holidays that is as productive as going to school to learn, taking a job may not be such a bad idea as long as his or her studies will not be affected by it. It will let him or her have a taste on what it is like to be a working individual of society and also keep him busy instead of lazing around at home and not making good use of the free time. Also, the first paycheck will also be significent and show how hard one's parents need to work to place food on the table everyday.
All in all, I think getting a job during the June holidays is a great idea and I might consider it even.

Holidays are finally back, students take their long break from long-winded lessons and piles of assessments stacked in front of them.
Students in the past usually take this time to either revise their homework or take time of to relax by going to the park to cycle and so on. But in contrast to the students now, even though some of them still does the same practice with the students of the past, some of them did something out of their usual boundary. Now to talk about it, you can see a lot of teenagers wearing in the staff uniform of a certain shop, serving the public.
Students are now taking the initiative to earn their own pocket money by working, 44 hours a week. Why is there such a situation that they want to earn their own money.
Firstly, of course for the main subject, MONEY. Now, we students tend to realise that ' Money makes the world go round', that we need the money for our own use. To buy our favourite clothes, games, food and so on. But there is also other things that triggers young teenagers mind to work.
Secondly, for work experience. From this as working as a part-time worker, they can learn how the 'real' world is, and that they can learn from the different experiences they encountered and take them as lessons. Then when they grow up and starts working in a company for full time, they can take these lessons and utilizes it for the future.
Lastly to understand how difficult is it to earn money, and also learn that the money when they used when they were young were those of hard-earned money from their parents. To learn that money can not be spent like 'flowing water', that it comes in from one hand and comes form another.
But there are also aftermath of this.
1.Not enough time to handle his or her homework.
2.Now that they have their own money, they can spent it as much as they like.
But overall, i think a job during the June Holidays is quite good for its benefits.
One day you might even see me or any of your friends working in McDonald's on a Sunday morning. You might not even know at all...

Holidays were once (and still are) recognised by teenagers as breaks from the hectic school life they have to face five times a week, which amounts to fifty times a term. In short, it is usually the signal for party time when they let down their hair and satisfy all their material desires with the money which they have saved up over the weeks.
Perhaps it is because the allowance that their parents give them monthly is not enough for their wants and needs that many teens nowadays are getting holiday jobs, some which even enable them to earn up to $2,400 a month.
I, for one, definitely feel that getting a holiday job is much more productive than just living off your parents. Firstly, it instils a sense of discipline regarding their spending of money. Working for money is, of course, much more different from reaching out and baring your palms, asking, “Mom, I need more cash.” It gets us teenagers thinking twice about the items which we are hankering after, whereby questions usually run through our minds; questions like, “Do I really need this? Will I ever use it? It is worth the money?” so on and so forth. It kind of makes shopping a stress activity, unlike before when we would simply grab what we wanted and head to the cashier counter to pay for them.
Yes, the aftermath and points of what teenagers learn after working is rather obvious: 1) Better ways to handle money and time, 2) A greater sense of responsibility which enables them to advance to greater challenges and 3) Lessening their parents’ financial burden.
Therefore, in many ways are holiday jobs considered as a benefit.
On the other hand, if one fails to manage his or her time properly, then of course, taking up a holiday job might not be as easy as he or she might think it is. Inevitably, when holidays come, assignments come along hand in hand as well. It results in having to divide your time among the four categories: Individual assignments, group assignments, holiday job, and creating time for leisure as well.
Nevertheless, I still feel that holiday jobs are a necessity in a growing teen’s life. After all, there isn’t much to lose, but much more to gain.

Low Shi Hui (16)
Ivan Chang(28)

Xia Yin(:

By Shaun-
I feel that teenagers should work during the holidays.

(HELLO MISS WONG!)

After all, holiday is not totally about earning hard for money, it is also for us to enjoy ourselves, rest well and catching up our schoolwork too! To end off the whole essay/post, I would recommend students to take up job attachment programs organized by the school as it is more educational and our parents are assured of our safely and whereabouts too. If you are really going to work outside, make sure you have some friends accompanying you and find out carefully about the details for the job, because you might not want to do jobs you don’t want to…(;

:) Eik kar
