Students working during the holidays have been a very common sight over the past few years. Even as students, what they spend each month is not less than an office lady who spend her money on her appearance. They could not get their desired amount of pocket money from their parents and therefore goes to work during the June and December holidays. In my opinion, it is both a very good way to learn how to earn our own money and to spend our free time on something meaningful.
To the students who work, they may have several reasons of doing so. Maybe they have finanacial problems at home and wants to help make ends meet to help their parents. Maybe they want to earn extra pocket money to spend on branded goods, or anything they desire. Or they just want to find a way to occupy their free time. Whatever their reasons are, there are both advantages and disadvantages of working during the holidays.
Firstly, students have an opportunity to know how it feels to earn their own money. In this way, they will get to understand how hard their parents work to support the family. This will allow the student to get closer to his or her family, increasing the family bond.
Next, most students spend their free time at home watching television programmes and using the computer for games or instant messaging purposes. Instead of slacking and doing nothing meaningful at home, working will provide them with new knowledge and skills, as well as extra income. This is why most students choose to work during the holidays.
As for the disadvantages, students may be too eager in earning extra income and forgot about balancing their time for school and work. Their time may be fully occupied by work that they have no time to complete their school homework. In another way, they may be too exhausted after work to bother about anything else.
However, if the students can manage their time wisely, working is a rather good way to spend their holidays. They can draw up a timetable on which days they want to complete their homework and so on. I believe that supervisors do understand that students have leisure programmes with their friends and a pile of homework to complete over the holidays.
In conclusion, i encourage students to work during the holidays provided that they can balance their time well. It will increase the students' skills and ability in adapting to their working environment in the future. Thus, balancing their time is very important for their benefits. If not, it will only pull down their grades and affect their studies.
Yanling (:
